The Opportunity

New Power Labs is hiring an Executive Co-Lead. This executive co-leadership position will lead partnerships and revenue, coalition and movement building, to advance our mission and strategic projects with capital deployers - funders and investors - across Canada. 

New Power Labs is shifting to a co-leadership structure. The Executive Co-Lead will work closely with the Research Co-Lead and Impact Co-Lead to provide directions and thought leadership for New Power Labs. The Executive Co-Lead will have primary responsibility over our partnership development and revenue generation. This position is ideal for a strategic relationship builder who is effective in establishing deep partnerships and community mobilization. This person will play a critical role in helping bring together partners to transform the lives of Canadians by expanding access to capital for underfunded and overlooked communities. This person will have experience, and a proven track record of revenue generation. In addition, they will share executive oversight of the organization with the Executive Co-Lead, Research and the Executive Co-Lead, Impact.

Core Responsibilities

Executive Co-Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Executive Co-Leads to develop and execute NPL’s strategic vision and goals.

  • Provide leadership and guidance across our portfolios, ensuring alignment with NPL’s mission and objectives.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and high performance within the team.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including board members, investors, and partners.

  • Oversee the development and execution of annual operating plans and budgets.

  • Lead finance, working with NPL’s outsourced controller.

  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators, financial metrics, and progress towards strategic objectives.

  • Represent the organization at government and industry events, conferences, and with the media.

  • Manage and lead the relationship with the Board of Directors. 

  • Provide regular communication and updates to strategic partners and key stakeholders.

Partnership Portfolio

  • Identify and develop relationships with strategic partners and catalysts. 

  • Work with strategic partners to build and grow a movement for more inclusive capital flow.

  • Develop and implement an education and content strategy to inform, educate, and inspire Canadians to support their journey in centering equity, diversity, and inclusion in flows of capital, move our learnings into the mainstream, and build awareness for further research, partnerships, and adoption.

  • Develop and implement convenings strategy, moving research into practice, by convening and working with partners and sector leaders to share insights, test and adopt new processes and practices, connect with networks and curate conversations to advance learning, and build commitment towards deeper partnerships and new approaches.

Revenue Portfolio

  • Lead fundraising and other revenue activities to sustain the work of New Power Labs and partners.

  • Work with the Executive Co-Lead, Research and the Executive Co-Lead, Impact to develop revenue strategies for annual goals of $1-5 million.

  • Develop, manage and support the partnership team.

  • Collaborate with partners to raise capital for strategic initiatives.

Compensation

New Power Labs will offer an annual salary of $140,000 to $170,000 for full-time work, depending on experience and qualifications, plus benefits including health and dental, RRSP contributions, etc. 

Qualifications

Required skills/expertise:

  • 7-10 years of partnership experience in public policy, social sector, economics, sociology, finance, or related fields.

  • 5-10 years of fundraising and revenue experience relevant to nonprofits in Canada, with a track record of raising $1-5 million per year.

  • 5-10 years of movement-building experience in public policy, social services, charitable sector, economics, sociology, finance, or related fields.

  • Knowledge of finance: deep knowledge of finance and understanding across the capital spectrum, from philanthropy, impact investing, venture capital, to traditional bank financing. 

  • Knowledge of, and passion for, equity, diversity, and inclusion: working knowledge and expertise in, and passion for, equity related topics and alignment to the kind of changes that NPL aims to accelerate within Canadian society.

  • Strong leadership skills: As this is a managerial position within NPL, skills such as excellent communication, patience, and an ability to provide direction, support and help advance the development of team members is required. Collaborative and diplomatic, while inspiring and passionate.

  • Communication: Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to clearly present and communicate compelling messages and influence senior stakeholders.

  • Partnership development: A solid understanding of how to explore, vet and close partnerships, including revenue-generating partnerships.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex partnership projects, along with solid general project management skills, is required.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, organised and process-oriented.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Familiarity with Google Suite products and Slack (Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Drive).

  • Builder with an entrepreneurial mindset. Experience and comfort working in a startup environment.

Desirable assets:

  • Bilingual (fluent English with proficient French equivalent to NCLC 7 or higher).

  • Strong understanding of the barriers to access to capital and financial inclusion.

  • Experience working in a consulting or management role.

  • An established high-quality network across foundations, impact investors and/or venture capitalists.

  • A post-secondary degree is preferred.
